Miele dishwasher troubleshooting

Unfortunately, no dishwasher model can work without failures. From time to time, something breaks down. In that case we need to look for the reasons why the dishwasher began to work poorly. All faults can be conditionally divided into two groups: the ones that are caused by the misuse of the equipment, or those that happened as a result of active operation of the appliance during its prolonged use. The drain pump is running when the door is opened.The waterproof system has activated.- Turn off the water supply.
- Contact Miele Technical Service.
Shortly after the program start the dishwasher stops running.The water supply is shut off.- Open the water supply.
The buzzer sounds. The Intake / Drain indicator flashes when the door is open.
The dishwasher stops.Before fixing the fault:

Fault in the water intake.- Open the water supply all the way.
- Clean the water intake filter.
- The water pressure at the water connection is lower than 4.35 psi. Consult a plumber.
Fault in the water drain.- Clean the triple filter.
There may be water in the wash cabinet.- Clean the drain pump and the non-return valve.
- Remove any kinks in the drain hose.
The display turns off.The dishwasher has gone into "Standby" mode to save energy.Press any button. The display turns on again.
Detergent is left in the dispenser at the end of a program.The dispenser was damp when detergent was added.Dry the dispenser before adding detergent.
The detergent lid cannot be closed properly.Detergent residue is blocking the catch.Remove the residue.
The door and the interior walls are still wet after a program has finished.This is not a fault!The moisture will evaporate after a short time.
It is the normal operating mode of the drying system.
Water remains in the wash cabinet at the end of a program.Before fixing the fault: - Turn the dishwasher off
The triple filter in the wash cabinet is clogged.Clean the triple filter.
The drain pump or the non-return valve may be blocked.Clean the drain pump and the non-return valve.
The drain hose is kinked.Remove any kinks from the drain hose.
There is a knocking noise in the wash cabinet.The spray arm is hitting an item in the basket.Interrupt the program, rearrange items blocking the spray arms.
There is a rattling noise in the wash cabinet.Items are not secure in the wash cabinet.Interrupt the program and rearrange loose pieces.
There is a knocking noise in the water pipes.This may be caused by the installation or the diameter of the pipe.This has no effect on the dishwasher. If in doubt contact a plumber.
The dishes are not clean.The dishes were not loaded correctly.
The program was not powerful enough.Select a more intensive program,
Not enough detergent was dispensed.Use more detergent
The spray arms are blocked by items.Turn the spray arm and rearrange the dishes if necessary.
The triple filter in the base of the wash cabinet is not clean or not correctly inserted. The spray arm jets might be clogged.Clean the filter and insert it correctly.
Clean the spray arm jets.
The drain pump or the non-return valve is blocked. Wash water will run back into the wash cabinet.Clean the drain pump and the non-return valve.

Clouding or etching on glasses.Possible causes may be : excessive rinse aid or type and amount of detergent. Any one or a combination of these faults may be to blame.

Glasses are dull and discolored, film cannot be wiped off.Glasses are not dishwasher safe.There is no remedy. Only wash dishwasher safe glasses in the dishwasher.
Tea or lipstick stains have not been completely removed.The wash temperature of the selected program was too low.Select the ""SaniWash" program.
The detergent has a low bleaching effect.Use a different detergent.
Plastics are discolored.Natural dyes e.g. from vegetables may be the cause. Not enough detergent was used to break down natural dyes.Use more detergent. Discoloration is permanent.

Switch the dishwasher off.
Water inlet fault.- Open the stopcock fully.
The indicator light "In- let/Drain", seen when the door is open, is flashing.- Check the water inlet filter and clean if necessary.
- The water pressure at the intake is lower than 0.3 bar. Seek professional advice.
There is a fault with the drainage system.- Clean the filter combination.
Water remains in the wash cabinet at the end of a programme.- Clean the drain pump.
The indicator light "In- let/Drain", seen when the door is open, is flashing.- Clean the non-return valve.
- Remove any kink in the drain hose.
At the end of a programme the in operation control light is flashing rapidly; the indicator lights next to programme buttons 1 to 5 are flashing when the door is open.There may be a technical fault.- Switch the machine off. Run another programme. If the indicator lights flash again at the end of this programme, there is a technical fault.
- Call the Miele Service Department.
Knocking noise in the wash cabinetThe spray arm is knocking against an item in the basket.Interrupt the programme, rearrange items which are obstructing the spray arm.
Rattling noiseItems of crockery are in- secure in the wash cabinet.Interrupt the programme, rearrange the items of crockery.
Knocking noise in the water pipesThis may be caused by the on-site installation or the cross-section of the piping.This has no influence on dishwasher function. If in doubt contact a suitably qualified plumber.
The dishes are not cleanThe dishes were not loaded correctly. Dishes were placed inside other pieces, water could not access all surfaces.
The outlet of the water in- take pipe for the middle spray arm was covered. An insufficient amount of water flowed into the middle spray arm.Make sure that dishes placed in the rear section of the upper basket do not cover the opening.
The programme was not powerful enough.Select a more intensive programme.
Not enough detergent was dispensed.Use more detergent
Tall items are blocking the path of the spray arms.Rearrange the items so that the spray arms can rotate freely.
The spray arm jets are blocked.Clean the spray arm jets

There are rust stains on cutlery.The salt reservoir cap has not been screwed on correctly.Replace it making sure it screws back on correctly.
The affected items are not corrosion resistant.There is no remedy. Purchase cutlery which is dishwasher-proof.
The "Pre-wash" programme was not run after dishwasher salt was added. Traces of salt have got into the wash cycle.Always run the "Pre-wash" programme after adding dishwasher salt.
The detergent lid cannot be closed properly.Clogged detergent residue is blocking the catch.Remove the residue.
